I really enjoy writing content for clients. I not only like reading and working with continually new subject matter, but I love a client's surprise when they see how the writing---just the writing!---can make their website so much better. I came to web writing by merging two careers: art history and education. A MA in Art History culminating in a thesis in cultural American history, gave me a lot of practice revising and rewriting. Simultaneously, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Fellow (sometimes reading/correcting really BAD student essays---sorry guys!) while struggling to master the skill of composing succinct art catalog entries for works that (I felt) frequently defied description. Museum work on the Oregon Coast also required focused, controlled writing both for cataloging artifacts and educational materials such as articles, brochures and lectures. Finally, as a teacher in Salem Oregon, the experience of actually having to show and describe to students how to write really prepared me well for the particular style that does best for the web: brief, concise, and very informational.
